St. John’s Episcopal Church
St. John’s Episcopal Church began as a mission known as St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. The name was changed ca. 1885 by Rev. Harry Cassill. This building burned and St. John’s relocated to the northeast corner of the public square. The new building was built in 1904. It was this church that was referred to as “the little tin church” since it was covered almost exclusively in tin. In 1927 Rev. F. Percy Goddard was appointed minister of St. John’s and the church grew rapidly under his guidance. The present church at the corner of Carter and Easy Streets was built in 1950. It is a beautiful building that also served the Marlin community as a day school for many years. The church’s centennial anniversary was celebrated in 1976. Some of Marlin’s earliest families were committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through faith, prayers, compassion, and encouragement and were instrumental in making St. John’s a fixture in the Marlin community. Judy Filer is presently the Vicar of St. John’s.
